Text Box: 5 Characteristics of a Good Project Leader
Text Box: New Web Site
Text Box: Realize the cost to repair the damaged equipment greatly exceeds the initial cost of providing an adequate grounding system.
2 major potentials for disaster in the CO-OSP are from aerial installations when occupying the same poles as electrical service and aerial and buried plant from lightning strikes. Buried when a portion of that pathway is aerial and/or when in a high thunderstorm area Text Box: with high ground resistance.
If your facility is in a large metropolitan area or the distance between the 2 buildings served is relatively short, your CO-OSP may be protected by the nearby buildings “Cone of Protection”. Seek the services of a competent BICSI (RCDD) Registered Communications Distribution Designer to determine if your installation is exposed or not.
Text Box: To properly ground your CO-OSP facility, each circuit in an aerial or buried environment must be terminated on a Primary Protector. This is typically a wall mount block with solid state or gas tube protection modules. These devices shall take any surge in voltage or current and divert it to a ground system thereby protecting your equipment and personnel.
